As we reported last week, Wills was planning to wear his Royal Air Force uniform on April 29th, but we’ve just learned that he may be taking it up a notch.

Irish Guards in uniform

The prince has just been named Colonel of the Irish Guards in the British Army. Experts are now suggesting that he will wear the very smart ceremonial uniform of the Colonels: a deep red jacket and black trousers with piping to match the jacket.

“Seeing as the appointment has just been made, he jolly-well ought to wear [the colonel uniform],” historian Hugo Vickers told People Magazine.

Although he is currently serving as a RAF helicopter pilot, this is William’s first honorary appointment in the British Army and he will be the Irish Guards’ first Royal Colonel. The Queen is Colonel-in-Chief, and she approved his new title.

Wills already holds honorary ranks in the RAF and Royal Navy, including: Commodore-in-Chief of Scotland and Commodore-in-Chief of Submarines, and Honorary Air Commandant of RAF.

The Palace has not commented on whether the new title will influence his wedding outfit choice, but it did confirm that he will be wearing a military uniform.

We’re just curious if his outfit will include one of those Irish Guard hats that look like a stack of bear cubs. Are the ceilings in Westminster even high enough to accommodate one of those suckers?
